MIAMI (CBSMiami) - An investigation is underway after a Miami couple was carjacked at gunpoint.

They were returning home from work in the area of NW 18th Avenue and 19th Street when the girlfriend says they were confronted by several men in the darkness.

Police say the suspects pulled up in a gray Honda Civic.

She said they told her boyfriend at gunpoint to get on the ground after demanding his keys and wallet, which he handed over.

They then drove off in the couple's rental car, which was found crashed by the suspects.

"I just thought 'oh my God, am I going to die?'" said victim Naseem Zarassham. "I thought my life was going to end as well as his. I can't even describe it."

Zarassham says everything happened very quickly.

"When I went inside the guys pulled up behind us with a gun and told him to get on the ground and give them everything," she explained. "He said ok and gave them his phone and wallet and they got in the car and just took off. It was terrible. It was crazy."

A police helicopter was called out along with the SWAT team after the carjacking at 2700 Southwest 33rd Court.

After a police pursuit, the stolen Altima crashed into a fence at Northwest 19th Avenue and 18th Street.

The suspects traveling inside the Altima fled.

A couple blocks away, police also found the Honda Civic with a firearm inside.

"This has never happened before," Zarassham said. "This is a pretty safe neighborhood. I don't know if they followed us or something because literally as soon as we parked and I got out they were right behind us."

Miami police questioned and released two men. They are looking for three suspects.

"We are asking the public if they know anything and if they have seen anything to contact us with more information so we can bring these violent criminals to justice," said Miami Police offier Kiara Delva.

"They just looked young, these three young males," Zarassham explained. "They were all wearing dark clothing. Just one guy told him to give him everything and get on the ground. It happened really fast. They hopped in the car and left and it took 20 seconds total."

"They took everything like all my work clothes and my laptop and his phone and everything," she added. "I don't know what we are going to. This is crazy. This can happen anytime."

She says she is amazed at how quickly this carjacking happened and feels numb from the experience.

On Friday afternoon, police released details about the young suspects who are all black males.

The first suspect is described as 18 to 20 years old, about 5'6 and was last seen wearing a white shirt and basketball shorts.

The 2nd suspect is described as 16 to 19 years old, about 5-foot-10 to 6' and weighing about 190 pounds and was last seen wearing a dark jacket, white shirt and dark pants.

The 3rd suspects is described as a light skinned black male, about 16 to 19 years old, about 5'6 to 5'7 and was last seen wearing a dark hoodie with basketball shorts.
