Corrections Officer Sentenced In Federal ID Theft
TAMPA (CBSMiami/AP) - Inmates at the Zephyrhills Correctional Facility have not only had their freedom taken away, some have also had their identities taken as well.
A former corrections officers at the facility has been sentenced to more than four years in federal prison for stealing the prisoners' identities.
Jerry St. Fleur, 26, stole the identities of current and former inmates without their knowledge, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney.
St. Fleur reportedly filed about 182 fraudulent income tax returns, and requested more than $500,000 in refunds
Officials say he will serve four years and three months in federal prison, and was ordered to forfeit $61,704 in proceeds from the fraud.
