CORAL GABLES (CBSMiami) – A student at Coral Gables Senior High is under arrest for making a threat against the school which turned out to be a hoax, according to Miami-Dade School Superintendent Alberto Carvalho.

Carvalho was very outspoken on Tuesday about what happened.

He called it a serious threat to the school environment and said there is zero tolerance for it.

Students at the Coral Gables Senior High School agreed with Carvalho.

"I think this is really bad," said 9th grade student Diego Huerta. "I don't think you should do things like that to others."

Students are expressing surprise and sadness over the allegations.

A student at the school is charged with creating fake Gmail accounts and using them to impersonate other students to threaten the school.

"Personally I think using kids names who are impersonated is terrible and affects innocent people," said 10th grade student Ana Francis Castillo.

"It's offensive to do this to people for no reason and to incriminate other students," said 9th grader Joah Brooks.

Carvalho says the arrested student will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

"We want the public to know we take all type of situations like this very seriously and have a zero tolerance policy about threats to any school that results in a disturbance to the learning environment," Carvalho said.

The student has been charged with a felony and arrested after an investigation over the weekend.

"If someone carries out a hoax and non-credible threat and passes out the responsibility on to his colleagues, this is not acceptable," said Carvalho.

"I think it's good that they filed everything they could and that this was a felony to show everyone that this should not take place," said 10th grade student Elizabeth Valdivia.

There could be some serious consequences for the arrested student.

"These hoaxes, these non-credible threats involving a felony could result in a lifelong record for a young person and affect his curriculum for life," Carvalho said. "You cannot go to law school or in the armed forces."

Carvalho added that the student is being removed from the school and referred to an intervention program to get the counseling that is needed.

It's not known if he'll be able to return this school year as classes end on Thursday of next week.

Carvalho did not say what grade the student is in or the nature of the threat that was made.
