Around 12:15 p.m., Miami Fire Rescue and City of Miami Police responded to reports of a collapsed crane at the hospital.

Officials said a "crane failure" occurred during renovations at the hospital while it was carrying mechanical equipment about 200 feet into the air before collapsing and dropping it on top of five construction workers.

In addition to the fatality, two workers were treated at Mercy and in stable condition, while the other two were being transported to Ryder Trauma Center in serious but stable condition.

Officials also said no one inside the hospital was in immediate danger, but they had to relocate six to 10 patients away from the nearby rooms and the area was evacuated.

OSHA is currently on the scene and assisting police and fire authorities with removing the crane from the scene. OSHA is also investigating the cause of the incident.
