FORT LAUDERDALE - The employment-focused social media platform LinkedIn has created a list of the fastest growing jobs in the country.

In the breakdown by cities, cargo specialist takes the number one spot for the Miami-Fort Lauderdale metro area, with a 90 percent growth rate over the last five years.

Coming in at number two is private equity associate, followed by sales developmental representative, growth specialist, and psychiatric nurse practitioner.

The list is supposed to serve as a resource for people in all stages of their careers wondering where the emerging opportunities are.

If you're interested in switching careers, to possibly one on the list, CareerSource Broward and the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce, Greater Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, Pompano Beach Chamber of Commerce, and Tamarac North Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce hosted a career fair Wednesday at the Greater Fort Lauderdale Broward County Convention Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The convention center is located at 1950 Eisenhower Boulevard.

Hundreds of positions are available. Companies looking to hire at the fair include Advanced Roofing, Broward Health, Broward Sheriff's Office, City of Fort Lauderdale, Courtyard Fort Lauderdale Beach, Florida Atlantic Research and Development Authority, International Union of Operating Engineers Local 487, Marine Industries Association of South Florida, and Rick Case Automotive Group.

It's estimated there are 31,000 jobs open in Broward county and there are 32,000 job seekers.

The organization linking them together had a huge job fair Wednesday at the Fort Lauderdale Convention Center.

Career Source Broward which connects employers with qualified skilled talent welcomed hundreds of applicants into a gigantic ballroom at the Convention Center.

There were recruiters from government, law enforcement, healthcare, the hospitality industry and education, to name a few.

Among the jobseekers: Sergio Sheridan. He's a  software engineer looking for a high-paying data analyst job.

He's been looking for six months.

"I wanted a specific role in tech now I'm more open to whatever comes along," he said acknowledging he's had to modify his expectations.

Heiko Dobrikow who is general manager of the Riverside Hotel in Fort Lauderdale says, "He's hiring restaurant and housekeeping staff."

We asked about current wages and whether that will be changing with skyrocketing rents and inflation.

He says $20 to $25 dollars an hour may be realistic in the future and Broward will have to do more to keep prospective workers from leaving the county.

South Florida's workforce is evolving from a not only beach tourism economy but a place for business and innovation.

Linkedin recently looked at jobs on the rise. Among the top jobs of the future...

Think cargo specialist at the airport.

Healthcare specifically-psychiatric nurse practitioners.

Chief revenue officer.

Business development associate

And head of human resources

After a few hours of chats and resume-dropping, Sergio Sheridan was still on the hunt, "I'm still looking. We'll see if I get lucky," he said.
