Coast Guardsmen Volunteer To Help Homeless For MLK Holiday

MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Local Coast Guardsmen prepared and cooked lunch for Miami's homeless community Friday to commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day which is coming up Monday.

The group from the Coast Guard Seventh District honored Dr. King and his dedication to bettering the community by cooking and serving lunch at the Chapman Partnership Homeless Assistance Center.

"This is the perfect way to kick off your Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday weekend," said Lt. Cmdr. Shaun Edwards, with the Coast Guard Seventh District.

The Seventh Coast Guard District, headquartered in Miami, is a 1.8 million square mile area of responsibility that encompasses the Southeastern United States and the Caribbean basin.
