Clowney Blazes A 4.47 40-Yard-Dash At Combine
INDIANAPOLIS (CBSMiami) – The Miami Dolphins aren't likely to look for any defensive line help in the 2014 NFL Draft, but there is some serious speed that will be available from a pair of star defensive prospects.
Jadeveon Clowney was expected to run fast, but when he ran his 40-yard-dash, he made a mockery of the times run by other players. Clowney, who measured at 6'5", 260 pounds, ran the 40 in just 4.47 seconds. He followed it up by running a second time of 4.48 seconds.
For a running back those times are good, for a defensive end, those 40 times will put even more fear into opposing quarterbacks.
According to ProFootballTalk.com, the fastest 40-yard-dash for a defensive lineman last year was 4.60 seconds and two years ago, Bruce Irvin vaulted into the first round by running a 4.50 40 at 245 pounds.
Needless to say, if anyone had any doubts about Clowney's freakish athletic ability they won't after he finishes his work at the combine. He's likely to be a top 5 pick in the 2014 NFL Draft in May.
In case you were wondering how fast it was, here's an dual look at speedy quarterback Johnny Manziel running the 40 against Clowney.
