MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- A 3-year old who has undergone more than a year of cancer treatment is getting out just in time for Thanksgiving.

Keshinae McFarlane's liver cancer is in remission thanks to treatment from doctors at the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center and Holtz Children's Hospital.

Her family said it's a reason to celebrate just before Thanksgiving. But the diagnosis wasn't so great 14 months before.

It all started when her mother, Nicole Brown, noticed that Keshinae had a bump on the left side of her abdomen and a high fever.  That's when she rushed her to a hospital near their home in Jamaica.

Doctors later diagnosed her with liver cancer just a few months before her second birthday.

Keshinae and her mother made their way to Miami for treatment where doctors confirmed she had a rare type of liver cancer that usually affects young children - hepatoblastoma.

Doctors at first thought she needed a liver transplant but after 15 surgeries and chemotherapy, her liver has regenerated.

With her cancer in remission, she is able to leave Friday.

Her mother says she is thankful this holiday season for her daughter's recovery and is looking forward to spend Thanksgiving with her out of the hospital.
