Owner Worried After 'Roy The Cat' Shot With BB Gun In Pembroke Pines

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The owner of cat shot with a BB gun is speaking out Monday night as police ask for the public's help with any information they can provide that will lead to an arrest.

Police said a cat named "Roy" was shot with a BB gun at around 6 p.m. on Sunday in the area of the 19100 block of NW 12th Court.

Responding officers found Roy bleeding from a wound to his left side.

"At this time, it's unknown who could've committed this horrible crime. It is unknown why this crime was committed," Pembroke Pines Police Capt. Al Xiques said.

Roy was taken to Leader Animal Emergency Hospital where a BB pellet was removed from its body.

Dr. Jacklyn Johns said Roy is breathing well now after arriving with a collapsed lung.

"He had an entry wound on the left side of his chest with an associated rib fracture and a bullet lodged on the right side of his chest underneath the skin," Dr. Johns told CBSMiami.com

After removing air from his chest cavity, he was put into an oxygen chamber, but he'll be weaned off the oxygen chamber Monday evening, said Dr. Johns.

Roy's owner, who was too scared to share her name, told CBS4's Ty Russell she is still worried.

"Maybe the same person is going to come along and shoot the cat again. Who knows?" she said.

She rescued the stray off the street nearly a year ago.

She added that Roy, who is about a year old, lives in the backyard and would usually take a stroll a few homes down.

Roy will most likely be released to his owner on Tuesday.
