Car crash in Pompano Beach ends with driver opening fire, investigators say
FORT LAUDERDALE -- A man was in custody following an overnight crash that led to gunfire early Friday, the Broward County Sheriff's Office said.
Ricardo Joseph, 32, was apprehended after a foot chase that included two small children, according to a written statement by the sheriff's office. Joseph was taken to a local hospital for evaluation after the crash, which occurred about 12:15 a.m. in the 2700 block of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., authorities said.
No other injuries were reported during the incident, according to investigators.
Deputies said the driver and passenger in a blue Ford Fusion were eastbound when they collided with a black 2015 Audi A4 that failed to yield the right of way. After the crash, Joseph exited the Audi and began firing a gun, officials said.
"We get out of the take and take a look and see that he hit us and he was like, 'You hit us and somebody has got to pay. He fired a couple of shots and then went over by the car and shot our car three times."
Video from the scene showed one car with several bullet holes.
The suspect ran from the scene with two children but was taken into custody with the two children.
Officials said Child Protective Investigation Section workers were contacted.
