MIAMI (CBSMiami/AP) — Rene Roberge, a Canadian tourist who admitted to traveling to Florida to have sex with an underage boy but turned out to be an undercover detective, was sentenced to more than 10 years in U.S. prison.
A Miami federal judge also ordered Thursday Roberge of Sherbrooke, Quebec, be placed on probation for life after his release from prison. He previously pleaded guilty to four federal sex offenses.
Authorities say Roberge flew to Fort Lauderdale after making online contact with undercover investigators posing as a 14-year-old boy and his father to arrange a sexual encounter.
Agents reported finding child pornography on Roberge's tablet computer. Officials say Roberge also planned to travel to San Antonio, Texas, to have sex with a teenage boy.
The judge recommended a prison close to Quebec.
