DAVIE (CBSMiami) – Following the Miami Dolphins 38-10 trouncing of the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, interim head coach Dan Campbell said that a sleeping giant had been awoken.
He was referencing the team as a whole but there was one player in particular that phrase could apply to.
Defensive end Cameron Wake was having a very pedestrian season through the Dolphins first four games, but that changed in a big way on Sunday.
Wake recorded four sacks against the Titans while forcing two fumbles, both of which were recovered by Miami.
For his efforts, Wake has been named the AFC Defensive Player of the Week for Week 6 of the NFL season.
Considering the impact Wake has had since joining the Dolphins, it's a bit surprising that this is only the third time he's been awarded AFC Defensive Player of the Week honors.
He was also named the AFC Defensive Player of the Month in October of 2012.
