Bush: Borders Less Secure If Congress Cuts Off DHS Dollars

OXON HILL (CBSMiami/AP) — Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush spoke against cutting off the Department of Homeland Security's budget saying it would make U.S. borders less secure.
Bush on Friday spoke to the annual Conservative Political Action Conference near Washington as Congress wrangled over Homeland Security's budget. Some lawmakers are opposed to spending cash on the department without stripping out President Barack Obama's executive actions on immigration.
Bush says he wants Congress to pass a bill that blocks Obama's actions. But he also says denying Homeland Security its budget would weaken the borders the department is tasked with patrolling.
Bush, who is considering a White House run, is working to win over conservative activists who are queasy about his record on immigration and education policies.
