PLANTATION (CBSMiami) - A couple of burglars made a smashing entrance into a Family Dollar store but left without their big prize.
On Friday, June 3rd, they used a vehicle to crash through the glass front of the store at 21 N State Road 7 in Plantation around 2 a.m. The thieves were methodical, according to police, carefully manuevering their compact car in reverse through the concrete pillars in front of the store in the plaza.
Police said they must have known there would be surveillance cameras in use because they kept their faces covered.
The burglars were after the safe in the front of the store. They were able to lift it off the floor but hit a roadblock when they realized it wasn't going to fit in the car - so they had to leave it behind.
The store's assistant manager discovered the break in when she went to open the store Tuesday morning. She said this was third time they've been broken into.
"Oh my goodness, I don't know why they keep coming, all the time they try to steal stuff but they never can like steal nothing out of here," said assistant manager Guerline Miguel.
Investigators are hoping that word of mouth will help them crack this case.
"We know their faces were covered but people like to talk and hopefully somebody will want some extra cash and call Crime Stoppers and tell us who these people are ," said Plantation police Detective Phil Toman.
Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers at (954) 493-TIPS.
