Bucs Deal WR Mike Williams To Bills

TAMPA (CBSMiami) - The Tampa Bay Buccaneers traded wide receiver Mike Williams to the Buffalo Bills Friday in exchange for a sixth-round pick, according to ESPN's James Walker.

Williams has had numerous off the field issues that have derailed his career in college and in the pros. Recently, he was sued by an insurance company for a kitchen fire, was the victim of a stabbing, and was put in pre-trial intervention last year for a separate incident.

The fourth-round draft pick out of Syracuse, sort of, had a strong rookie year in 2010 when he caught 65 passes for 964 yards and 11 touchdowns. He also played well in 2012 when he caught 63 passes for 996 yards and nine touchdowns.

However, last season he played in just six games and had 22 receptions for 216 yards and two touchdowns, the lowest totals of his career.

The move is interesting for the Bills because current head coach Doug Marrone was Williams' coach at Syracuse when the mercurial wide receiver quit the football team halfway through a season.

According to Syracuse.com, Williams missed all of the 2008 season after he was dismissed from school following accusations of academic dishonesty. He also served a one game suspension for a violation of team rules in 2009.
