BSO: Operation Rundown A Success
CORAL SPRINGS (CBSMiami) - The Broward Sheriff's Office says they arrested 97 people in an all-day, countywide operation called Operation Rundown. BSO says they targeted human trafficking cases, drug case, prostitution cases and also served several arrest warrants.
"It's very important that the community knows that we're out here doing this," said BSO Lt. Steve Feeley. "We put a lot of time and planning into it and we're proud of the arrests that we make and the people we take off the streets."
CBS 4 cameras rolled on surveillance video inside a Pompano Beach motel. The Broward Sheriff's Office says this man solicited a woman posing as a prostitute and agreed to pay her for sex. Seconds later, deputies put him in cuffs and then he was confronted by our cameras. He told us he is married.
"I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry," the man said.
Friday night he joined the dozens of men and women processed, cuffed, fingerprinted and led off to jail by the Broward Sheriff's Office. BSO says they arrested a guy with a pound of marijuana and thousands of dollars. As well as accused serial burglar, David Jasinski. BSO says their Burglary Apprehension Team along with Coral Springs Police caught Jasinski after they received a tip, followed Jasinski and pulled him over after he burglarized six cars. Investigators say Jasinski admitted to breaking into hundreds of cars in the past four months.
"He traveled across the county to target a neighborhood," said Det. Craig Brown.
Ray Rodriguez was one of his victims. He says Jasinski took an iPad, sunglasses and other items from his family's cars. Rodriguez said he will get the items back but he says he learned a big lesson.
"You can't be too careful or anything you should make sure you have everything locked," Rodriguez said.
The Broward Sheriff's Office says the operation combined the efforts of local police and federal agents and was a success. BSO says they confiscated 3 guns and more than $230,000. BSO say they also arrested a juvenile on an attempted murder warrant.
In all, BSO says it made 38 felony and 59 misdemeanor arrests. BSO says they seized marijuana, prescript drugs, cocaine and heroin during the operation.
