COOPER CITY (CBSMiami) – A Cooper City High School student told Broward Sheriff's Office detectives that he and at least one other player on the school's baseball team endured serious hazing while on a team trip to Altamonte Springs last March, according to a BSO report obtained by CBS 4 News.
The report states the student told detectives that "…5 teammates came into his room, held him down and pulled his pants down. They were able to get his underwear down to his thighs but then he fought them off."
The student also said "another night he witnessed the same group of boys hold down (a teammate), pull his pants down" and sodomize him with their fingers."
The student who made the allegations said that when the coach of the team learned of the allegations the coach said, "…it's just baseball, keep it to yourself."
According to the report, the student said that after the allegations emerged earlier this month he started getting text messages like one that said, "…why u being (an expletive)…hiding from (expletive) starting stuff."
The report said that threats of violence were made against the student who came forward and that his parents will not let him return to the school next year.
CBS4 News reached out to Broward County Schools regarding the case.
They released a statement saying, "The district takes any allegation involving student safety seriously. District officials are aware and looking into the allegations…Broward School District Police are also in communication with Altamonte Springs Police regarding its' open investigation."
