Broward Votes On Loosening Coronavirus Restrictions In Future
FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – Broward County commissioners are looking to the future.
Broward Mayor Steve Geller has set a possible target of May 1 to begin a phased approach to reopening.
Tuesday night, the county commission voted to relax some coronavirus restrictions once the adult vaccination rate reaches 50% and the positivity rate remains under 5% for 10 consecutive days.
If that happens, social distancing at hotels would vanish. There would be no capacity limits at restaurants, retail stores and non-pro sporting events in Broward.
Commissioners also said further restrictions will be lifted as more people get vaccinated and cases go down.
In Miami-Dade County, it is a completely different story.
On April 12, the midnight curfew goes away, and the county has now fully opened retail and commercial establishments as long as people wear masks, hand sanitizer is available, and everyone keeps six feet apart.
However, don't be making your cruise plans anytime soon.
The CDC still hasn't signed off on sailings, although we are told there are ongoing negotiations to have sailings mid-summer.
