Authorities ID body of man found in vehicle pulled from Tamarac canal
FORT LAUDERDALE -- The Broward County Sheriff's Office is investigating the discovery of a body that was found Monday in a submerged vehicle in a Tamarac canal, authorities said.
Investigators on Tuesday confirmed the victim's identity as Rondell Edwards, 28. He disappeared Saturday and family and friends had been searching for him ever since.
Broward deputies removed a Toyota Highlander from a canal off Southgate Boulevard Monday and relatives of Edwards believe that was the vehicle he was driving when he vanished Saturday.
Near the canal Monday, his friends and family were visibly shaken and sobbing when the Toyota was pulled from the water.
Now they want to know how his vehicle ended up in the water.
Investigators were called shortly after 12 p.m. for a report of a vehicle in a canal located near North University Drive and Southgate Boulevard, according to a written statement.
Sheriff's deputies, Tamarac Fire Rescue, Coral Springs Fire Rescue and officers from the Coral Springs Police Department all responded to the scene along with Broward divers.
The Sheriff's Traffic Homicide Unit was dispatched to the scene to conduct an investigation into the circumstances of the incident.
Officials have not released a cause of death for Edwards.
