Broward sheriff's deputy involved in deadly Weston shooting

WESTON - A Broward sheriff's deputy was involved in a deadly shooting Monday morning in Weston.

The sheriff's office said just after 9 a.m., they received a report about a "possible suspicious person" in the 1400 block of Capri Lane, in the 10X Weston apartment complex.

"He got out of the vehicle, he was armed with a weapon, he was given verbal commands to drop that weapon, he did not.  Instead he charged at the deputies causing one of the deputies to fire his weapon," said BSO Spokeswoman Veda Coleman-Wright.

The man shot by the deputy died, no other injuries were reported.

Wanda Cordero, who identified herself as the man's mother-in-law, said he had been missing since Saturday morning. She said they got a call Monday that the man was at the apartment complex, but no one in the family lives there.

"I don't understand, he wasn't a violent person," Cordero said. "This is a total shock for us, for the family, for my daughter, for his family," said Cordero.

On Sunday the sheriff's office posted a picture and issued an alert for her son-in-law, 55-year-old Mario Bonilla, who they said was a missing, endangered person.  He went missing early Saturday morning, leaving a note behind for his wife. BSO tells us they are looking into the possibility of suicide by cop. 'Investigators are looking into everything. Some information we received from family we're looking into all aspects of what happened," Coleman-Wright said.

"He had no signs at all, at all," said Cordero. "He was the happiest man in the world," she said.
