The bomb squad determined it was not a bomb and that the liquid inside the jug was not flammable.
During the investigation, passengers were evacuated from Concourse F and several flights were delayed.
"Police were screaming behind me you have to get back you have to get back," said a delayed passenger Seda Crook. "Everybody started to run this way so I didn't know what was going on."
"They were running around telling everybody to evacuate," said another passenger, Sam Johnson. "Either get on the plane or get out."
According to the Miami Dade Police Department, the remaining luggage on the British Airways flight was swept by bomb sniffing dogs before the plane was cleared for take-off at around 10:30p.m.
FBI is questioning the man who was detained by police. It is unclear if he will be charged.
