Body found near corrections department facility in Pompano Beach
POMPANO BEACH - An investigation is underway after a body was found overnight near a Florida Department of Corrections site in Pompano Beach.
The Broward Sheriff's Office said just before midnight they received a report of a shooting on Avondale Drive at NW 2 Street.
Arriving deputies found the body of a man who had been shot. It was near a fence at a DOC facility for those who have been recently released from prison.
It is unclear if the man was connected to the facility.
The area surrounding the facility is residential. Neighbors said they were shocked that something like that happened since the area was usually very quiet.
Broward sheriff's homicide detectives are now trying to determine what led to the shooting.
