SUNRISE (CBSMiami) – Fans of the Florida Panthers surely know who Bill Lindsay is.

He's been a major part of the team's history for almost 20 years, scoring the team's most famous goal during their run to the Stanley Cup Finals in 1996.

An original Panther, he played 506 games over two stints with the team, recording 165 points (69 goals 98 assists).

Recently, Lindsay had been a part of the Panthers television broadcast from 2009 to 2015.

On Thursday the team announced that Lindsay has been named radio color analyst for all of the Panthers home games during the upcoming season.

Along with his role on the airwaves, Lindsay will also serve as an alumni ambassador for the Panthers Alumni Association. Additionally, he will act as the lead on-ice instructor for the team's Try Hockey For Free youth hockey initiative.

"An original Panther, Billy has formed a strong connection with the South Florida community over the years," said Panthers Executive Chairman Peter Luukko. "We look forward to his continuing contributions in the broadcast booth and on the ice growing the game of hockey in South Florida."

Lindsay ranks eighth on the Panthers all-time list for games played with the franchise and fifth all-time for penalty minutes.

"I am very grateful and blessed to begin this new role and opportunity with the Florida Panthers," said Lindsay. "It's an exciting time for our organization and I am thrilled to continue to be part of it."

He joins new Panthers radio play-by-play announcer Doug Plagens in the broadcast booth.  The pair will team up for the first time on Saturday for Florida's final preseason game against the Tampa Bay Lightning at the BB&T Center.

The Panthers will face the Philadelphia Flyers in their season opener at the BB&T Center on Saturday, October 10th at 7 p.m. You can hear every game on Sports Radio 560 WQAM, the radio home of the Florida Panthers.
