POMPANO BEACH (CBSMiami) -- A 57-year-old man has died after authorities say he was struck by a car in the middle of a Pompano Beach intersection.

It happened at North Federal Highway and N.E. 10th Street on Thursday night.

The Broward Sheriff's Office said Douglas Pellicane was riding his bicycle eastbound, just north of the crosswalk, when he failed to stop at the red light and continued through the intersection.

Pellicane was then hit by a 2005 Nissan Altima, driven by Paul Mills, 27, who was heading north in the far right lane.

Pompano Beach Fire Rescue rushed Pellicane to Broward Health North and was pronounced dead a short time after.

Mills remained on scene and cooperated with investigators. The investigation is ongoing.
