Beachgoers Beware: Rip Current Advisory Extended In South Florida

MIAMI BEACH (CBSMiami) — South Florida beachgoers beware, there's another rip current advisory Tuesday along the coastline.

The National Weather Service has extended the advisory through Tuesday for Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties because of weather conditions.

Miami Beach Ocean Rescue operations supervisor Scott Reynolds told CBS4 News partner The Miami Herald that a dozen people had to be rescued Monday because of rip currents.

Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue spokesman Timothy Heiser said 23 rescues have been made along Fort Lauderdale beaches since Friday.

At least two people were hospitalized after being caught up in a rip current and rescued.

Red flags along beaches warn swimmers about rough conditions. Anyone caught in a rip current should remain calm and swim parallel to shore until they can escape the current and swim back to the beach.
