FT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) - The arrest of two burglary suspects has led to bit of a problem for the Broward Sheriff's Office and the Coral Springs police department.
Returning all the recovered loot to its rightful owners.
Nanley Ramirez, 23, and Edwin Nodarse, 32, were picked up in a joint operation by the sheriff's office Burglary Apprehension Team (BAT) and the police department's Burglary unit. They each face numerous counts of burglary and grand theft.
Along with the arrests, detectives also recovered thousands of dollars of stolen property including four firearms, dozens of jewelry boxes filled with jewelry, laptops, tablets and cell phones.
They are now in the process of trying to determine who owns what so it can be returned to them.
"I feel violated like while I was at work someone was in our house and it's a feeling of insecurity and I'm glad that they caught the perpetrators," said John Barry whose home was burglarized.
"When someone comes into your home and they steal from your home, and they steal the things that you worked hard for, to make sure that you provide for your family, and they are in the home where your kids sleep, that's a very impactful thing," said sheriff's Lt. Steve Feeley.
Investigators suspect Ramirez and Nodarse are responsible for at least seven residential burglaries.
"Four handguns were recovered during this investigation, three of these handguns were stolen," said Sheriff Scott Israel. "Anyone who knows anything about statistics knows that a very high percentage of violent crimes in which handguns are utilized, those handguns are stolen."
In many of the burglaries, sheriff's investigators said Ramirez and Nodarse would gain entrance to the residence through a 'doggie door'. It happened to one victim who didn't wish to be identified.
"My little dog is 25 pounds, the criminal is like 5' 3" and 130 (pounds) so he's pretty small."
They added that they planned to get rid of the 'doggie door' so something like this doesn't happen again in the future.
