Baseball Fans React To Pete Rose Report
Bryan Altman, CBS Local Sports
After years of vehemently denying that he had bet on baseball, Pete Rose finally confessed in 2004 to having bet on the game during his stint as manager of the Cincinnati Reds. When pressed over the 10-plus years since, Rose has still denied betting on baseball as a player for the Reds - an even more egregious violation of MLB rules.
Now that denial has also been debunked thanks to an ESPN "Outside The Lines" report that revealed new documents that prove Rose bet on baseball during his final season as a player in 1986. In recent years it felt as though Rose was inching closer to a return from baseball's doghouse, but this might just be the final nail in his coffin.
In the wake of the news, baseball fans from across the country weighed in on what they think about the latest allegations that threaten to destroy Pete Rose's chances of making it into baseball's Hall of Fame for good. Some defended the all-time hits leader, but many also believe this is the end of the road for the "hit king."
The Defenders:
Pete Rose is shady but the dude never bet against the Reds. What's the harm in thinking your team is going to win?

Pete Rose didn't do anything WRONG. All he did was make a FEW BETS. BUT PUTTING STEROID USERS IN THE HOF IS OK? #DIRTYgame #HOF #????

I just don't understand why we celebrate cheaters like A-Roid. Pete Rose played only for love of the game, and he belongs in the HOF.

The Anti-Rose Camp:
With these new allegations of Pete Rose betting on baseball during his PLAYING a days, I can't support putting him in the baseball #HOF.

#PeteRose I believe you should never be considered in the Baseball Hall of Fame! Indeed you are a disgrace to the beloved game of baseball.

At the very least, this should end the #PeteRose #HOF conversation. #mlb

Not sure bout any1 else, but I was in complete shock after finding out Pete Rose is a lying, self-centered weasel. Could've never imagined

Bryan Altman is, for some reason, an unabashed fan of the Rangers, Jets and Mets. If he absolutely had to pick a basketball team it would be the Knicks, but he’d gladly trade them for just one championship for either of his other three teams.
