Autistic Teen Football Player's TD Secured Win For Fla. Team
WINTER PARK (CBSMiami/AP) - An autistic high school student has dreamed of playing football his whole life. He got even more than he wished for when he took the field on Thursday night.
CJ Williams, 19, suited up for Winter Park's Lake Howell High School football team against Clermont East Ridge High School.
Head coach Dave Wensyel called a specially designed play at the end of the first half for Williams. Williams made the most of his chance, scoring a touchdown that gave his team the edge over Clermont, 10-7.
He also took the final snap of the game, taking a knee and sealing his team's first victory of the year.
Autism kept Williams off the field during most of his high school years, but his enthusiasm on the sidelines has been steadfast.
The teen's mom Kathleen Williams said he has always loved football, and preferred watching games over cartoons as a child.
After the game, Williams was given the game ball.
