26-Year Old Shot, Killed In Miami Gardens

MIAMI GARDENS (CBSMiami) -- Police are investigating a deadly shooting in Miami Gardens on Wednesday.

It all happened near 183rd Street and 17th Court.

Chopper4 was over the scene as a yellow tarp was draped over a body.

Two cars were also seen. They appeared to have been in an accident two blocks away.

A neighbor who only gave his first name, Kevin, described a chaotic scene. He said he heard at least eight gunshots pierce the quiet of this Miami Gardens neighborhood just north of Miami Gardens Drive.

"I heard a lot of shots," he said. "Everyone went to ducking. We heard a tire skid and an accident."

Miami Gardens Police gathered evidence and focused their attention on a damaged red car in front of a home. A damaged white car sat a few feet away.

Miami Gardens Police Detective Michael Wright said police are investigating to see if those vehicles are linked to this killing.

The victim's mother CBS4's Carey Codd, the 26-year old man shot and killed was her son, Lascelles "Romeo" Hibbert.

"My tears today, yours tomorrow because you know what? What goes around comes around," Smith said.

She said this neighborhood is peaceful but she said there are troublemakers.

"It's just these young, good for nothing thugs that ain't doing nothing with their life and destroying other people lives," she said.

The neighbor also said he ran to see what was happening and he saw the victim in the front area of his house, on the ground, dying.

"I was trying to talk to him, telling him to 'Hold on, hold on,'" he said. "He was gasping for air."

The neighbor said he stayed with the victim who died shortly after.

A pastor from Miami Gardens is urging anyone with information about the shooting to break their silence.

"If you saw a car. If you saw somebody, call the police," said Eric Radon. "Report this kind of event. That's what's going to stop this stuff."

Police have not released a description of the gunman or gunmen.
