MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- A fatal wrong way wreck shut down parts of I-95 northbound early Sunday morning between US-1 and the 836.

"One person lost their life and three people were transported to trauma center," said Florida Highway Patrol's Joe Sanchez.

According to FHP, the driver of a blue Toyota, identified as 24-year old Franklin Chavez, collided with a Honda Civic sometime after 5:00 a.m. on I-95 northbound near S.W. 8th Street.

"The vehicle was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of I-95 when they collided head on," said Sanchez.

The driver in the Honda Civic, identified as 23-year-old Carmen Criales, was pronounced dead on the scene.

Her two passengers, Bryan Criales, 22, and Elisa Diaz, 48, were transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital.

Chavez was also transported to Jackson.

As FHP investigates why the driver was traveling the wrong way, they want to remind motorists of a life-saving tip.

"If they're traveling on a highway and the reflectors are red, it is clearly telling you that you're going the wrong way. Remember, red means wrong way," Sanchez said.
