Anti-Sex Trafficking Effort Launched For Miami Super Bowl
MIAMI (CBSMiami) - The Super Bowl host committee is teaming up with state, local and federal agencies to stop human trafficking at the big game. An event known to contribute to an increase in sex trafficking.
The 'Big Game' will be played in Miami in 2020.
Unfortunately, the Magic City has one of the highest rates of human trafficking in the country.
On Wednesday, officials launched a massive campaign to stop sex trafficking in South Florida, leading up to and beyond next year's event.
They've set up a rapid response team to investigate complaints to the newly-launched "305-fix-stop" hotline.
Florida is third in the nation for human trafficking and Miami is first in the state for the number of victims.
"We will have a team to the full extent of the law."
In Miami-Dade County, 40 percent of human trafficking victims are minors.
There are documented cases of children as young as 12 being sold for sex.
