Man Wanted In SW Miami Baby's Abduction Found Dead; Amber Alert Linked To Triple Homicide
MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Authorities say the man wanted by authorities for abducting his own week-old baby in Southwest Miami-Dade Wednesday morning was found dead in Pasco County.
The Pasco County Sheriff's Office confirms that Ernesto Caballeiro, 49, was found inside a van Wednesday afternoon with injuries consistent with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Authorities with the sheriff's office held a news conference later in the day to say a blonde woman had been with Caballeiro inside the vehicle. Authorities are calling for that woman to come forward. They believe she may have information on the whereabouts of the missing baby, who was identified as Andrew Caballeiro.
"If that's a true fact, and that woman is out there, please come forward I promise you all we care about is that little Andrew is OK," said Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco.
Investigators spent the afternoon combing over land and forestry in Pasco County, going over every square inch of land they can.
"We had the blood hounds out there searching... there was no indication that the child was in the area," Nocco said.
Earlier in the day, an Amber Alert was issued for his missing baby connected to a triple homicide in Southwest Miami-Dade.
They said the pair had been traveling in a white Ford passenger van with the Florida tag KUS K23.
There are new questions about how this may be tied to a triple murder investigation.
Police discovered the bodies of three women who were shot in a home in the 21900 block of SW 187 Avenue.
According to police, a family member was conducting a welfare check when they stumbled upon the gruesome scene.
"Unable to contact him by phone, responded here to the residence and he discovered three adult females deceased," said Miami-Dade Detective Lee Cowart.
It's unclear when the women died, but authorities said the women were related.
"You can only imagine. I am in shock," said Miguel Gonzalez, a friend of the victims.
Gonzalez says he knew all three victims who were shot and killed inside the home and says they were the mother, grandmother and great grandmother of the missing baby.
A senior law enforcement source confirms that is true.
The victims were later identified as 40-year-old Arlety Garcia Valdes, 60-year-old Isabela Valdes and 84-year-old Lina Gonzalez.
Their family gathered outside the home Wednesday.
They're asking for privacy but wanted to share a message through a GoFundMe page they created for the women:
"On January 28th, 2020, 10 days after baby Andrew was born he lost his mother, grandmother, and great grandmother to a senseless act of domestic violence. Three generations of brave women were slained (sic) protecting the newborn's life."
Detectives said Caballeiro is related to at least one of the victims.
Records show Caballeiro has been arrested several times before on charges including grand theft, operating a chop shop and aggravated assault.
