Abramson: "Tannehill Hasn't Stopped Praising Jakeem Grant"
The Palm Beach Post's Miami Dolphins reporter Andrew Abramson joined Orlando Alzugaray on The Big O Show Friday and discussed the team's first days of OTA's. Abramson said that a player that has stood out has been rookie receiver Jakeem Grant.
"Jakeem Grant is a little guy...he's listed at 5-foot-6, and there's no one on the field that compares in size to him," Abramson said. "The players love him though, he's already earned the nickname 'Mighty Mouse'. Ryan Tannehill hasn't stopped praising the guy, stating that he can not only help special teams, but the offense too."
The Dolphins selected Grant out of Texas Tech with the 186th pick in NFL Draft. During his final season with the Red Raiders, Grant caught 90 passes for 1,268 yards and 12 total touchdowns - breaking Michael Crabtree's school record.
While the diminutive Grant wasn't invited to the NFL's Rookie Combine, he made big headlines at Texas Tech's pro day when he was reported to have run a hand-timed 40-yard dash in just 4.1 seconds. His hand-timed time would've been faster than any other recorded time - including Bo Jackson's hand-timed time of 4.12 at the 1986 combine. However, Grant's time was officially marked down as 4.34 by the school.
Still, Grant is easily the fastest player on the Dolphins roster and arguably one of the fast in the whole league. Getting the ball in his hands - via special teams or as a receiver or running back - should be a good thing for Miami.
