TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami/AP) — The state's Senate has given final approval to a bill which would require a 24-hour waiting period for abortions.

Next stop - Gov. Rick Scott's desk.

Republican Sen. Anitere Flores said that if only one woman decides not to get an abortion after a waiting period, she'll consider the bill a success.

But Democrats argue that abortion would become the only medical procedure with a state-mandated waiting period.

Democrats also say the bill reflects a double-standard for Republicans who claim they want government to out of people's lives.

The Senate voted 26-13 for the measure Friday after about an hour of debate.

The bill provides exceptions for victims of rape, incest, human trafficking or domestic abuse.

Scott's office didn't immediately respond to an email about the bill. Scott is anti-abortion and has signed measures such as one requiring ultrasounds before the procedure into law.
