7.2 Magnitude Earthquake Rocks Mexico
MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- A 7.2 Magnitude earthquake rocked parts of Mexico Friday morning.
It happened at around 10:00 a.m. on the pacific side.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey, it hit near the western coast of Mexico occurred in the state of Guerrero, a little more than 200 km southwest of Mexico City.
It is not clear if people were injured in the earthquake.
The center said Mexico is located over three large tectonic plates, making it the world's most seismically active regions.
According to the National Oceanic and. Atmospheric Administration, no destructive tsunami threat exists based on historical earthquake and tsunami data; however, earthquakes of this size sometimes generate tsunamis that can be destructive along coasts.
