4 New Non-Travel Related Zika Cases In Miami-Dade

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The Florida Department of Health announced Tuesday there are 9 new Zika cases across the state.
Five of the cases are travel related with two in Miami-Dade, one in Clay, one in Osceola and one involving a pregnant woman. No location was given for the pregnant woman.
There are four new non-travel related cases in Miami-Dade but it's not known if they are from Miami Beach. The department is still investigating the point of exposure. In addition, there is one non-Florida resident who contracted Zika in Miami-Dade.
The Zika transmission zone in Miami Beach is a 4.5 mile area within the boundaries of 8th and 63rd streets.

There are currently 109 non-travel-related Zika cases in Florida and 693 travel-related cases. Of those cases, 91 pregnant women have been infected.
Zika infections are mild for most people but can cause severe brain-related birth defects, including a dangerously small head, if women are infected during pregnancy.
