$32.7 Million Worth Of Cocaine Seized Off Dominican Republic

MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Coast Guard crews seized bales of cocaine worth $32.7 million dollars in the Caribbean Sea.

Crews on a routine patrol April 7th say they spotted a suspicious 30-foot blue-hulled go-fast boat with four men on board. It was about 150 nautical miles from La Romana, Dominican Republic.

Coast Guard officials say they fired warning shots which prompted the men on the go-fast boat to stop.

Once the team boarded the boat, they found 1,100 kilograms of cocaine.

The suspected smugglers - a Colombian and three Venezuelan men- were taken into custody.

Coast Guard officials the bust is part of a joint effort between various agencies to combat drug trafficking into the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico.
