MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Authorities confiscated hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of counterfeit cash at Miami International Airport.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers said the counterfeit cash arrived in a package from Peru on July 23rd.

Officers chose the package for extensive examination, opened it and found various cushions inside.  When they cut those open they found eleven sets of plastic covers taped together. Once they opened that, they found  counterfeit U.S. bills totaling $228,100.

The bills were described as being poor in quality. Later, they were confirmed to be counterfeit.

Officers seized it and turned the counterfeit cash over to the U.S. Secret Service for further examination.
