Nearly 11 million ballots cast in Florida 2024 election for 78.76% turnout

A total of 10,986,175 people — 78.76% of Florida's registered voters — cast their ballots for the Nov. 5 election. 

The breakdown included 1,143,456 in Broward (77.04%), 1,103,588 in Miami-Dade (72.35%) and 44,546 in Monroe County (85.37%). 

The highest turnout was 90.23% in Holmes County.

The state turnout percentage was about 2 percentage points ahead of the 2020 general election, when 11,144,855 votes were cast for a 76.51% turnout of the 14,565,738 registered voters.  

This year there were 13,949,168 registered voters as of Nov. 5.

On Tuesday, the state Election Day numbers were 2,579,590 with 179,941 in Broward, 215,152 in Miami-Dade and 12,283 in Monroe.

The state Division of Elections website in its final posting Wednesday showed that 3,022,516 ballots had been cast by mail, while 5,363,013 had been cast at early voting sites for a total of 8,385,529. Only 514,818 Vote-by-Mail ballots were not returned.

Republicans heavily dominated early voting and Democrats led mail-in voting.

Overall, 3,597,463 Republicans and 2,769,756 Democrats had voted in those two methods. Also, 1,815,913 unaffiliated voters and 202,397 third-party voters had cast ballots. 

Elections offices accept Vote-by-Mail ballots in Broward, Miami-Dade Counties

Early voting sites opened Oct. 21 in most of the state, and counties are required to offer early voting through at least Saturday with the last day Sunday in Broward, Miami-Dade and Monroe counties. The deadline to request a Vote-by-Mail ballot was Oct. 24. After Sunday, mail-in ballots could be dropped off at county elections offices on Monday and Tuesday. Those with unsubmitted mail-in ballot can vote at their designated precinct on Election Day.

Of the registered voters there are 5,455,480 Republicans, 4,400,561 Democrats, 3,584,982 no affiliation and 404,890 third party.

In the United States, more than 85.9 million people have cast their ballots -- more than 46.7 million early voting at polling places and another 39.4 million mail-in ballots - data by the University of Florida Election Lab shows. With about 186.5 million registered voters the turnout rate is 46.1%.

The turnouts in South Florida for early voting/mail were Broward 69.4%, Miami-Dade 57.7%, Monroe 60.6%

  • Miami-Dade: 597,448 total — 244,423 Republicans, 175,903 Democrats, 165,192 unaffiliated, 11,930 third party
  • Monroe: 17,663 total — 9,576 Republicans, 4,193 Democrats, 3,416 unaffiliated, 478 third party
