2 shot in Pembroke Pines gated community
MIAMI - Police are searching for a shooter or shooters who drove off after two people were shot Tuesday afternoon in a gated Pembroke Pines community.
A woman says her grandchildren were hit, a 17-year-old boy coming home from school and his 23-year-old sister. One was shot in the thigh and the other in the foot.
It happened in the Avant of Pembroke community located in the 11800 block of Pembroke Road.
CBS News Miami's Larry Seward spoke to a woman who said she tried to help the victims. She said she heard six shots and then heard a woman scream and then yell, "Help, we've been shot."
That is when the neighbor went into the victims' apartment, called 911, and wrapped towels around the victims' wounds until paramedics arrived.
Police said they were searching for a suspect vehicle that was seen fleeing the area.
Images from Chopper 4 showed at least eight marked police units at the scene of the shooting.
Police said the crime scene had been secured, and there was no active threat within the community at this time.
Authorities continue to investigate.
