2 teens critically injured after being shot in SW Miami-Dade, police say

MIAMI — Police were searching for a shooter and motive after two teen boys were shot and critically injured Saturday afternoon in southwest Miami-Dade, authorities said.

The 15-year-old and 14-year-old boys were flown for treatment to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital's trauma center, where they were listed in critical condition.

The shooting was reported shortly after 3:30 p.m. at SW 213th Street and SW 120th Avenue, police said in a written statement.

The identities of the boys were not immediately released.

Officers were called to the area after receiving a report of gunfire in the area. When they arrived, they found the two teens suffering from a gunshot wound.

Bullets ripped through a car and carport along SW 120th Avenue.

"It never happened in this place (before)," Yanet Lima, a neighbor said.  "My father (has) lived here nine years.  It (has) never happened."

A gunman attacked the teenagers, who were walking on the avenue near SW 213th Street, police said.  Both ran but the shooter and a hail of bullets followed, according to police. Before anyone called 911, Miami-Dade Police officers received alerts from ShotSpotter.

Two blocks away from the intersection where investigators found more than a dozen shell casings, officers found the victims collapsed along the avenue.

"The motive for this shooting is unknown as police are trying to piece it together," Detective Andre Martin of MDPD said.

Investigators have surveillance video but no suspect is in custody yet.  Detectives asked for tips.  If you have any information about the shooting, call CrimeStoppers at (305) 471-TIPS (8477).
