PEMBROKE PINES (CBSMiami) -- Two people have died after being thrown from their cars in an overnight accident on I-75.
It happened just before 3:00 a.m. Saturday on the highway near the Sheridan Street exit.
Both victims were pronounced dead on the scene. Police identified the deceased passenger of a black Volkswagen Passat as 20-year-old Salvador Diaz of South Bay, FL. The driver of a white Kia Optima who died has not yet been identified.
Florida Highway Patrol is investigating what caused the two cars to crash.
"The white vehicle struck the dark vehicle, caused the dark vehicle to run off the roadway and into the ditch over here," said FHP's Sgt. Mark Wysocky. "The driver of the white vehicle was ejected out of the vehicle and is in the roadway. And that subject may have been hit by a couple of vehicles."
Three other passengers, from both cars, and all teenagers, were taken to Memorial Hospital Miramar in unknown condition.
Authorities are asking anyone who happened to witness the accident to call police.
