MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Miami Gardens police are trying to figure out what led to a deadly crash that claimed the life of one person and sent two others, including a child, to the hospital with serious injuries.
Chopper4 captured the aftermath of the crash that happened on NW 37 Avenue and 213 Street around 5 p.m. Tuesday.
Miami Gardens police told CBS4 that the driver of one car died and a juvenile passenger in that car is in critical condition at Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital. The driver of the other car is in serious condition.
CBS4 News spoke with a man who was nearby after the crash and asked not to have his identity revealed.
"I come out and see if I could render assistance," the man said. "There were a lot of people. There was a lot of turmoil."
The man said the worst part was being unable to help the badly injured victims – including a child who had been thrown from a car.
"It was very traumatic," he said. "It was a traumatic experience. Especially seeing a child lying the road and there's nothing you can do for them."
Traffic homicide investigators are trying to figure out exactly what led to the crash.
Investigators said they do not believe it was a head-on collision.
For the people who witnessed the accident and the deadly consequences of it, all they could do was hope for the best.
"Right now my heart and prayers go out to each of the families," the man said.
No word yet on whether any charges will be filed in the crash.
