2 accused of robbing man of $200,000 in jewelry, cash in Miami Beach
MIAMI - Two people are facing serious charges after police said a man was robbed of $200,000 in jewelry and $3,000 in cash at gunpoint during a hotel meetup in Miami Beach.
Police said Akkura Stover, 21 and Deshawn Casey, 33 committed a calculated crime.
According to police, Stover, a North Carolina native, was talking to a man from Gainesville online when they decided to meet face to face on the 6500 block of Collins Avenue on December 7th.
According to the arrest report, the victim and Stover were hanging out at the Monte Carlo Hotel when police said things took a turn. They said Stover pulled out a gun and then stole hundreds of thousands worth of jewelry and cash from the victim.
Investigators said Stover then hopped into a rideshare and was dropped off at 36th Street and Biscayne Boulevard, where police said she met Casey.
The arrest report said, "The victim received communications from def. Casey where he implicated himself in the robbery and tried to intimidate the victim into buying his stolen jewelry back. Both Stover and Casey were identified by the victim..."
Both were arrested on felony charges Monday. Their lawyers appeared in court on their behalf.
Stover and Casey are expected to face a judge Tuesday morning.
