$2.4M In Cocaine Seized On Freighter At Miami Seaport

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – More than $2 million worth of cocaine will not make it to the streets of South Florida after it was seized from a freighter at PortMiami.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers discovered more than 178 pounds of cocaine during an enforcement boarding on Nov. 1st. The street value of the cocaine is approximately $2.4 million.
CBP officers, attached to the Anti-Terrorism Contraband Enforcement Team, found suspicious brick shaped packages placed on top of an overhead ledge aboard a freighter.
A drug sniffing dog alerted to the presence of drugs after the brick shaped packages were removed from the freighter.
"Our officers are working diligently to protect our borders and using every tool at their disposal to disrupt the flow of narcotics at our ports of entry," said Diane Sabatino, CBP Miami Seaport Port Director. "This seizure has taken a significant amount of cocaine off the streets and out of our neighborhoods."
The case is being investigated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations. No arrests have been made.
