MIAMI (CBSMiami) - The Miami-Dade Police department is investigating a drive-by shooting which ended with one man dead and another hospitalized Saturday night in Brownsville.
Responding officers arrived at the scene of the shooting shortly before 7:30 p.m. at Northwest 44th Street and 24th Avenue and found two men with gunshot wounds.
One of the victims was rushed to an area hospital and other was pronounced dead a the scene.
Police identified the dead man as 34-year-old Marquel Brooks.
"He was just so happy, you understand me? Every weekend this man was at the football game with his son. I don't understand. It's crazy," said Shalisa Williams, Brooks' fiancé.
She says Brooks recently had words with some unsavory types who had moved into the neighborhood.
Brooks worked full time as a construction worker but he lived for weekends when he would coach youth football and enjoy quality time with his family.
Rap star and local youth mentor Luther Campbell sent out a Tweet after the shooting.
Brooks had a history of non-violent arrests, pot possession mostly, but all charges were dismissed.
While Brooks was very involved with local youth sports, he did not drop the ball when it came to family and community.
"He don't have a problem with anybody," said Williams. "The only thing Marquel do is go to work Monday through Friday, Saturday with us - football, Sunday, family day. That's it. That was his life."
Authorities have identified the second victim as 23-year-old Joseph Anderson, Jr.
Anderson was visiting from Columbus, Georgia and is currently listed in critical condition.
Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-8477 or (305) 471-TIPS.
