According to Colina, a weapon was recovered at the scene.
Colina did not say what type of weapon was recovered.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is leading the investigation into the police-involved shooting which is standard procedure in such cases.
Police have not released details about the domestic violence incident, or the names of those involved.
The female victim was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital.
CBS4's Peter D'Oench also spoke with a neighbor, Maria Bejerano.
She said, "My husband was walking down the street by the store and as he was walking he noticed a lot of commotion with the police and all that. He asked some of the people at the nearby store and they said something about a possible stabbing and a problem between a husband and his wife or girlfriend and boyfriend and then a stabbing and a shooting."
The incident happened on the Miami-Coral Gables border.
"This is awful," she said, "with things like this happening here to anyone at any time especially around here in the city with Miami and Coral Gables. This is a very quiet area and I don't ever hear anything. I have lived here for 2 years and I haven't heard anything like this. I am very surprised by this."
