6 homes of 2017 Oscar nominees

The 89th annual Academy Awards air this Sunday, Feb. 26, and some of the nominees have a longer trek than others to make it to Hollywood's Dolby Theater.

Of course, many do have homes in the Los Angeles area. After all, it makes sense to prioritize a shorter commute. Others, however, have to fly in from across the country or across an ocean.

Some of the stars go big when buying a home, like Jeff Bridges' 19.5-acre Montecito estate, while others go for more modest properties, like Octavia Spencer's three-bedroom home in Toluca Lake.

Regardless of the home size they choose, many celebs opt for features that enhance feelings of luxury and privacy. The homes on this list feature wine cellars, vintage tiling, sparkling pools, private theaters and, of course, tall, extensive landscaping.

Emma Stone (Actress in a Leading Role)

Actress Emma Stone danced her way to an Oscar nomination in the musical "La La Land," in which she played an aspiring actress working as a barista on a Hollywood studio lot. Her performance earned her a Golden Globe for best actress in a musical or comedy, a Screen Actors Guild Award for outstanding performance by a female actor in a leading role and a BAFTA Award for best actress in a leading role.

She's up for the Oscar against Isabelle Huppert ("Elle"), Ruth Negga ("Loving"), Natalie Portman ("Jackie") and Meryl Streep ("Florence Foster Jenkins").

Emma Stone (Actress in a Leading Role)

Stone bought this four-bedroom, four-bathroom Beverly Hills home in 2012 for $2.5 million through a trust under the name of her manager. It has hardwood floors, several fireplaces, a wine cellar, a brick patio, covered deck and swimming pool.

When she purchased the house, celebrity gossip publications speculated Stone was moving in with then-boyfriend Andrew Garfield, who is also nominated for an Oscar this year for his role in "Hacksaw Ridge." The couple split in 2015, but the house hasn't changed hands.

Jeff Bridges (Actor in a Supporting Role)

In "Hell or High Water," actor Jeff Bridges plays a soon-to-be-retired Texas Ranger pursuing two bank-robbing brothers. He has been nominated for several other supporting actor awards this season, including the Screen Actors Guild Awards, the BAFTAs and the Golden Globes.

Bridges previously won an Oscar for best actor in a leading role in 2010 for "Crazy Heart," and this year he's up against Mahershala Ali ("Moonlight"), Lucas Hedges ("Manchester by the Sea"), Dev Patel ("Lion") and Michael Shannon ("Nocturnal Animals") in the supporting actor category.

Jeff Bridges (Actor in a Supporting Role)

Bridges' 19.5-acre estate in Montecito, California, is now on the market. It's listed at $18.5 million, down from its original asking price of $29.5 million. The five-bedroom, six-bathroom home has an attached guest cottage, a separate two-bedroom cottage, a detached music studio and home theater, a swimming pool, terraces and fruit orchards.

According to the L.A. Times, Bridges bought the home more than 20 years ago from musician Kenny Loggins for slightly less than $7 million.

Viola Davis (Actress in a Supporting Role)

"Fences," an adaptation of a Pulitzer-winning stage play by the same name, tells the story of Troy Maxson (Denzel Washington), a former Negro League baseball player in 1950s Philadelphia trying to provide for his family. Viola Davis plays his wife, Rose Maxson, the same role for which she won a Tony Award in 2010 for the stage production. So far this season, she has taken home supporting actress awards at the Golden Globes, the BAFTAs, The Screen Actors Guild Awards and the Critics' Choice Awards.

At the Oscars, she's up against Naomie Harris ("Moonlight"), Nicole Kidman ("Lion"), Octavia Spencer ("Hidden Figures") and Michelle Williams ("Manchester by the Sea").

Viola Davis (Actress in a Supporting Role)

Last year, Davis bought this five-bedroom, eight-bathroom home in Toluca Lake, California, for $5.7 million. It has a wet bar, a 600-bottle wine cellar, a media room with a projector, a saltwater pool, fire pit and an outdoor kitchen. Octavia Spencer (Actress in a Supporting Role)

Octavia Spencer is nominated for second time in the supporting actress category, which she won in 2012 for "The Help." This year she's nominated for her role as NASA mathematician Dorothy Vaughan in "Hidden Figures," which tells the true story of the African-American women who played an instrumental part in putting the first American into space.

Spencer was also nominated this year for a Golden Globe. Also nominated in this Oscar category are Viola Davis ("Fences"), Naomie Harris ("Moonlight"), Nicole Kidman ("Lion") and Michelle Williams ("Manchester by the Sea").

Octavia Spencer (Actress in a Supporting Role)

Spencer bought this three-bedroom, two-bathroom home in Toluca Lake, California, for $841,500 in 2013. The Spanish-style home was built in 1927 and has hardwood floors, vintage tiles, a fireplace, leaded windows and a fenced backyard.

Michelle Williams (Actress in a Supporting Role)

In "Manchester by the Sea," Michelle Williams plays Randi, the ex-wife of Lee Chandler (Casey Affleck), a depressed loner who has left to care for his nephew after his brother dies. She has also been nominated for this performance in the supporting actress category at the Golden Globes and the BAFTAs. Also nominated in this category are Viola Davis ("Fences"), Naomie Harris ("Moonlight"), Nicole Kidman ("Lion") and Octavia Spencer ("Hidden Figures").

Michelle Williams (Actress in a Supporting Role)

Williams bought this eight-bedroom, six-bathroom home in Brooklyn, New York, for $2.5 million in August 2015. It was built in 1901 and has eight fireplaces, hardwood floors, stained glass windows, a spiral staircase and an elevator.

The listing photos show peeling paint and other signs the home could use a little TLC. Williams submitted plans to the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission last year, proposing extensive renovations to the historic property.

Sting (Original Song)

Sting is nominated for an Oscar for his collaboration with J. Ralph on "The Empty Chair," featured in "Jim: The James Foley Story." This is his fourth nomination in this category. He was nominated for his work on "Cold Mountain," "Kate and Leopold" and "The Emperor's New Groove."

The other songs nominated in this category are "Audition (The Fools Who Dream)" and "City of Stars," both from "La La Land;" "Can't Stop the Feeling" from "Trolls;" and "How Far I'll Go" from "Moana."

Sting (Original Song)

Sting and his wife purchased this 16th-century manor in Wiltshire, England, in the 1990s. It was built in 1578 and rebuilt after a fire in 1912, then expanded for the visit of King Alfonso XIII of Spain in the 1920s. Sting set up a recording studio in the dining hall.

The home also has a library, a boat house, a puzzle (maze) garden and a functioning farm that produces organic vegetables and has beehives, cows and goats.
