Your Fourth Of July Guide: Parades, Fireworks Shows, Closures

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — If you're hoping to do something beyond the BBQ this Fourth of July there are plenty of parades and fireworks shows to choose from across the Southland.

The following are parades held across L.A. County:

      • Holmby Hills: The Holmby Westwood Property Owners Association Fourth of July Parade will begin at 10 a.m. at Warner Avenue School and conclude in Holmby Park.
      • Long Beach: The 11th annual Great American Kids' Bike Parade will begin at 10 a.m. at 1 Granada Ave. on the beach bike path in Long Beach. Long Beach police ChiefJim McDonnell, a candidate for Los Angeles County sheriff, is among those expected to attend.
      • Pacific Palisades: Recently appointed Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr will be the grand marshal of the 66th annual Pacific Palisades Fourth of July Parade. The festivities are set to begin at 2 p.m. on Sunset Boulevard, between Via de la Paz and Drummond Street.
      • Pasadena: Head to South Pasadena for their 32nd annual Festival of Balloons Fourth of July Parade, set to begin at 11 a.m. at the South Pasadena Library.
      • Rosemead: The city's parade will begin at 10 a.m. at Muscatel Avenue and Valley Boulevard and will include floats, bands, dignitaries and classic cars.
      • San Gabriel: Catch the 9:30 a.m. parade at Plaza Park, in front of the San Gabriel Mission. It will continue on through the Mission district, head east on Broadway and conclude at Smith Park.
      • Santa Monica: The city's eighth annual Independence Day parade, "May the 4th Be With You," will begin at 9:30 a.m. at Main Street and Pico Boulevard.
      • Sierra Madre: The city's July 4th parade will include children on decorated bicycles, classic cars and the band from The Gooden School. The two-hour parade will begin at 10 a.m. at the corner of Sierra Madre Boulevard and Sunnyside Avenue, and travel the length of Sierra Madre Boulevard to Sierra Vista Park.
      • Sunland/Tujunga: Catch the Independence Day parade at 10 a.m. at Foothill Boulevard and Mt. Gleason Avenue. It will head west along Foothill Boulevard and end at Sunland Park. Its theme is "Celebrating Arts in the Foothills."
      • Valley Village/Studio City: The Valley Village Homeowners Association Fourth of July Parade will begin at Colfax Elementary School at 10 a.m. and conclude at Valley Village Park, where the association will provide corn dogs, watermelon, cold drinks and cupcakes. The parade is billed as a "red, white and blue celebration" where residents are encouraged to create their own floats and displays.
      • Westchester. The city's 15th annual Fourth of July Parade begins at 11 a.m. and will be held along Loyola Boulevard from Westchester Park to Loyola Marymount University

Thinking about heading to the post office or bank on the Fourth? You may want to think again. The following locations are closed for the holiday:

Government offices, courts, schools, libraries, banks and post offices will be closed Friday.

Trash collection in the city of L.A. will be pushed back by one day, according to the Los Angeles Department of Public Works Bureau of Sanitation.

All Metro-operated trains will operate on a Saturday schedule, meaning they will run until about 2 a.m. The Orange and Silver bus lines will also operate on a Saturday schedule. All other bus lines will operate on a Sunday/holiday schedule. For information on Metro schedules, visit metro.net or call (800) COMMUTE.

Metrolink trains will not be operating, except for two round trips between Union Station and Lancaster on the Antelope Valley Line. Regular service will resume Saturday. For train schedules, visit metrolinktrains.com or call (800) 371- LINK.
