Simi Valley Woman Reported Missing Rescued After Going Over Side Of Malibu Road

MALIBU (CBSLA.com) — A Simi Valley woman missing for two days was found alive Wednesday after her car was discovered down a ravine in Malibu.

Jenifer Duron, 40, was carried up the hillside in a rescue basket, then taken to a hospital in an ambulance, county fire Inspector Randall Wright said.

Duron's white Kia Sorento was found 50 feet down the side of a hill at Pacific Coast Highway and Latigo Canyon Road at about 8 a.m. by a jogger. The jogger, Lisa McClelland, heard a woman screaming for help, but didn't have a cell phone with her -- so she had to jog all the way home to call 911.

"I went up to the top of the hill and looked back, like I always do, and I saw what I thought was a car door, and I looked over and I saw the skid marks," McClelland said. "I looked over the cliff side and that's when I saw the vehicle."

Once crews got down to the car, they discovered a woman matching Duron's description alive inside and quickly started the rescue effort to pull her out.

Duron was injured, but was conscious during the entire rescue, authorities said.

Simi Valley police released Duron's picture Tuesday after she didn't return from her run. She had told her family she was going to a Malibu beach for a run. Her predicament resulted in Duron spending two nights without food or water.

"Her first words were 'I didn't think anybody was going to find me'," Duron's father Michael said.

Duron says she got too close to the rocks while she was driving, causing her to over-correct. There was no indication that she had been distracted or impaired.
